My Dad

Rev. Dr. John Weiler is my dad. I'm proud of him. He works hard, sometimes too hard. He has a gentle spirit and a desire to see everyone (and I mean everyone) come to know Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour.

I have always known my dad to have a soft heart. Here's an example: When I was young, there was a deacon in our church who had a cottage that we used to go to almost every summer. On one of those vacations Dad thought it would be fun to take me fishing. So down to the dock we went with our fishing poles in hand. Dad put the worm on my hook (while I lost my lunch!) and then he began to teach me the art of fishing.

"You need to be quiet, Debbie." Dad said, "If you're too loud the fish will get scared and stay away." I was little, I was energetic, quiet was not something I did well. But I was fishing with my dad and if he needed me to be quiet I would try my best. Then, all of the sudden something started to tug on my dad's fishing pole. He caught a fish! My dad caught a fish! I was so proud of him!

My dad reeled in the fish. Now I'm not going to tell you how big it was because everytime someone tells a fish story we all know that the fish mysteriously grows a few feet. However, for a little kid like I was the fish was big!

Dad began to take the fish off the hook, however, the hook was caught around the eye of the fish. Dad couldn't get the hook out. He tried, he really did. The whole time he was saying "I'm sorry fish." "Oh, you poor fish." Dad was heartbroken, you see normally we would catch the fish and then throw it right back in the water and let it swim away. But this fish was going to die.

As far as I know, Dad has never been fishing since. That's how soft hearted his is.

I love my Dad!
Have a great Tuesday
Deb

Hi Debbie,
Your Dad must be very proud of his daughter, her husband and their lovely children.
